COLLABORATIVE TEAMING

Are you wondering about “Collaborative teaming… “ and asking yourself, "What is it, how does it work and what happens when teachers are meeting?”

Eccles staff are in the early stages of framing the important work that will occur during their Wednesday morning sessions. On September 16 and September 23 Eccles' staff were intensely engaged in conversations laced with topics such as what common assessment they would use to set a baseline, bringing the results back to their team, and identifying and sharing the instructional strategies that delivered positive results for students.

Teaching has historically been an isolated endeavor where teachers worked alone in a classroom of students. In comparison, the ability to collaborate and share successful strategies and to work as a team focused on student learning and success is invaluable. Comments such as “Students in your classroom did better than mine on this assessment. What instructional method did you use?” will be commonplace.

Time has long been the barrier to effective collaboration such as this. Very few districts have been able to establish a unified time across all grade levels. Canby is fortunate to be able to carve out 70 minutes each Wednesday morning to dedicate to student learning. We are anxious to see the student success and share them with you.

We will continue to update you on the important work staff are doing on behalf of our students.
